Paul Shanley

Position : Forward

Prolific wide man Paul Shanley enjoyed a memorable debut for Runcorn Linnets in their first league game of the 2016-17 season against West Didsbury & Chorlton at The Millbank Linnets Stadium.

It began even before kick off with the presentation of the North West Counties League's Premier Division Player of the Year award which 'Shanners' had landed the previous season on account of his outstanding displays for Runcorn Town. He had received no fewer than 19 Player of the Match awards from opposition clubs.

Handed the captain's armband in the absence of suspended skipper Kyle Hamid and honeymooning vice-captain Mark Houghton, Paul celebrated his maiden Linnets appearance with a goal in the curtainraising 2-2 Hallmark Security League draw against West Didsbury & Chorlton.

It will hopefully be the first of many goals for a player who can operate on either flank and netted a remarkable 100 goals in 214 appearances for our near neighbours from Weston Point.

Paul had joined Runcorn Town from Atherton Collieries in November 2011 and scored 24 goals or more in three of his four full seasons for the Paviions outfit. His best campaign haul was 30 goals from 53 appearances in 2014-15 season.

Runcorn Linnets would like to thank AGQS Ltd who has kindly sponsored Paul Shanley.
