21 Oct 2020 : Defender Alex Downes returns to the NPL with Runcorn Linnets

Runcorn Linnets manager Calum McIntyre has signed versatile 20-year-old defender Alex Downes from Colwyn Bay.

Alex is a graduate of the Chester Academy, and already has experience of Northern Premier League football through loan spells at Ramsbottom United as well as the Bay, who are now members of JD Cymru North.

Alex subsequently joined the Seagulls on a permanent basis and his performances in the shortened 2019-20 season prompted the award of their Supporters Player of the Year trophy.

Alex is our second recent arrival from the Bay following that of their captain, midfielder Tom McCready. The Welsh club has been unable to start the 2020-21 season due to virus restrictions.

The signing of Alex is subject to international clearance.
