Position : Forward
Long-serving Mark unselfishly played through a niggling injury in 2017-18 to make another important contribution at Runcorn Linnets.
He played 40 times, scoring 11 goals, to end the title-winning season on 212 Linnets career outings - at the time, the joint second highest number of appearances for Runcorn ( accolade shared with his now manager Michael Ellison).
With Ello now retired from playing (barring any further emergencies!) and club record appearances holder Matt Atherton having moved on, Houghto has chance to make further progress in the all-time list - once he has recovered from pre-season surgery on his troublesome groin problem.
Mark began his playing career at the top of the non-league ladder with Southport in the Football Conference, scoring a number of times against sides who are now in the Football League.
He joined Skelmersdale United in 2010 and later moved to Chorley under the guidance of Garry Flitcroft where he won the Northern Premier League First Division North title before returning to Skem.
The fast-moving striker joined Runcorn Linnets in December 2012 and scored in the club's League Challenge Cup final victory over Formby in May 2013.
Mark has had a major influence with his consistency, knack of popping up with important goals and versatility.
He can play in the wide positions, behind the front men or as the main striker - a role he has successfully resumed over the last two seasons with his commitment, loyalty and ability being rewarded with the club vice captaincy.
By the end of 2017-18, Mark had accrued 76 goals in Linnets colours.
Runcorn Linnets would like to thank Bill Raftery who has kindly sponsored Mark Houghton.
