Matt Cross

Position : Management

Matt returned to the Linnets in his role as assistant manager to Michael Ellison in July 2016, upon the resignation of Stuart Humphreys.

He proved an influential second in command for our 2017-18 title success in The Hallmark Security League Premier Division and likewise as we stepped up to The Northern Premier League Division One West.

Crossy previously served the club as a player, signing in December 2012. His 97 appearances yielded nine goals.

He is a popular figure at the Millbank Linnets Stadium, having scored a superb overhead kick in one of his opening games for the club (at Barnoldswick Town) which went viral on YouTube.

Matt had started his career in the Football League at a young age, playing for Barnsley and Hereford United before moving to Bangor City to play in the Welsh League.

He gained Northern Premier League playing experience with Trafford, Bamber Bridge, Salford City and Warrington Town and won the First Division North with Witton Albion in 2011-2012.

He joined Runcorn Linnets in December 2012 and won the club's Goal of the Season award during the 2012-2013 campaign.

Matt played against Linnets for Padiham in a never-to-be-forgotten last day of the 2015-16 season as we narrowly missed out on promotion to the EVO-STIK League, despite a convincing victory.

Runcorn Linnets would like to thank Paul The Red who has kindly sponsored Matt Cross.
