Michael Ellison

Position : Management

Michael is in his fourth season as manager of Runcorn Linnets, having quickly carved out a reputation as one of the top young bosses in North West non-league football.

After retiring from playing as our club captain at the end of 2016-17 season, with more than 200 Runcorn appearances under his belt, Ello was appointed as manager in July 2016.

Rebuilding the first team virtually from scratch, he led Linnets to a fourth-placed finish in his first managerial campaign.

Ello then masterminded the club's maiden title success in his second season in charge as the championship of The Hallmark Security League Premier Division was won.

This saw the team step up a division and perform more than creditably. We were competitive throughout our first Northern Premier League campaign but narrowly missed out on a West Division play-off spot.

Ello has taken to management with the same vigour and enthusiasm he always displayed during his playing career. An emergency outing as a sub in 2017-18 saw him extend his Linnets appearance count to 212 with two memorable goals.

As a player, he joined Winsford United in September 2010 and later moved to Runcorn Linnets in 2011, anchoring the midfield to great effect.

His first goal for the club at Abbey Hey prompted scenes of wild celebration on the terraces and a new catchphrase "I was there when Ello scored".

Throughout his time as a player at The Millbank Linnets Stadium, Ello proved a great example to younger members of the squad and was also instrumental in our NWCL Cup success of 2012-13. He now continues to be an inspiration in the dressing room and on the touchline.

The popular figure was awarded the Players' Player and Supporters Club Player Of The Year awards in 2012-2013 season.

Having reached a century of games as Linnets boss in our penultimate game of 2017-18, Ello received the Noel Bell Trophy at the club's end-of-season presentations for outstanding service and achievement at the club.

Runcorn Linnets would like to thank Joan and Dave Bettley who have kindly sponsored Michael Ellison.
