Michael Simpson

Position : Midfield

Starting the 2019-20 campaign with 174 Linnets appearances and 23 goals under his belt, Simmo is one of the most familiar faces in the squad.

However he wasn't seen on the field anywhere near enough times last term, reluctantly taking on the role of spectator as his season was badly cut short by injury.

The player's unrelenting support of both the strikers and defence was sorely missed as he featured in less than half of the Yellow and Greens' games in 2018-19.

Simmo has been a driving force of the Linnets' rise over recent seasons - instrumental in the club finally becoming Hallmark Security League Premier Division champions in 2017-18.

He has taken a central midfield role after spending much of his early time at the club as a right back. In both positions, Simmo has demonstrated a knack for scoring a spectacular goal.

In his third Linnets spell, having returned to the Millbank Linnets Stadium from Prescot Cables in December 2016, he had first signed for the club in September 2012 and again in July 2015.

A one-time Academy player at Football League club Bury, Simmo played in the Northern Premier League with Skelmersdale United for two years before initially joining the Linnets. He went back to Skem in August 2014 but stayed for just one season.

He had been a member of the Linnets team, which won the NWCL Challenge Cup in May 2013.

Runcorn Linnets would like to thank Adrian & Reg who have kindly sponsored Michael Simpson.
