Paul Shanley

Position : Forward

The talented winger's form has been a major factor in Michael Ellison's successful stint as Linnets manager.

Shanners' attacking prowess out wide on the left is undoubted but equally important are his diligence in tracking back and the attacking threat he poses as both provider and finisher.

The popular player completed a century of Linnets career appearances during the course of last season while also taking on added responsibility as stand-in skipper in the long-term absence through injury of Kyle Hamid.

Shanners' performances were affected by injuries of his own in the final part of the campaign. However, his efforts never dipped.

Shanners had featured more than anyone in the team, which carried off the Hallmark Security League Premier Division title in 2017-18.

His 49 appearances (including two as a sub) yielded 15 goals.

Shanners had enjoyed a memorable debut for Linnets in our first league game of the 2016-17 season against West Didsbury & Chorlton at The Millbank Linnets Stadium.

Handed the captain's armband in the absence of suspended club captain Hamid and honeymooning vice-captain Mark Houghton, Shanners celebrated his maiden Linnets appearance with a goal.

However, a memorable afternoon started even before kick off with the presentation of the North West Counties League's Premier Division Player of the Year award, which Shanners landed on account of his outstanding displays for Runcorn Town in the previous season.

Overall, he netted a remarkable 100 goals in 214 appearances for our near neighbours.

Shanners joined Town from Atherton Collieries in November 2011 and scored 24 goals or more in three of his four full seasons at Pavilions. The player's best campaign haul was 30 goals from 53 appearances in 2014-15.

Runcorn Linnets would like to thank Deb Pritchard who has kindly sponsored Paul Shanley.
