02 May 2017 : Kristian Holt and Kieran Nolan nail colours firmly to Linnets mast

Two young and talented, if contrasting, midfield players who helped to transform Runcorn Linnets' fortunes in the second half of the season have both confirmed they are staying.

Defensive midfield player Kieran Nolan has made a big impression on all at The Millbank Linnets Stadium since joining from Northwich Victoria.

He will again be joined in the middle of the park next term by dynamic Kristian Holt, who has played an equally important part in the Runcorn renaissance under manager Michael Ellison and assistant Matt Cross.

The 20-year-old Nolan has shown great maturity since coming on board while still a teenager, with his ability to break up opposition moves - at the same time being a reassuring presence for his team-mates.

Manager Michael Ellison said: 'The phrase old head on young shoulders really fits the bill with Kieran.

'He keeps the game simple but is certainly effective in shielding our defence - enabling the more progressive midfield players to take us forward.

'He is the type of player all managers want in their side but has really enjoyed his short time with us so far and the atmosphere within the club. He is also able to fit in at centre half if necessary and it is great to see him staying.'

One player who can compliment Nolan's talents in a more attacking sense is ex-Atherton Collieries ace Holt, who has quickly established himself as a regular fixture in the Linnets engine room.

Ellison added: 'Kris gives us tremendous energy and enthusiasm in midfield and covers an awful lot of ground. He was very highly rated during his time at Colls and an integral part of their rise through the leagues.

'He has settled in really well and after earning a regular run has just got better and better. He is also more than capable of coming up with a goal when needed.'

Confirmation of Holt abd Nolan's intentions brings to eight the number of players from the campaign just ended to have pledged their allegiances to the Linnets so far. Further announcements are imminent.
