Paul Shanley put the Linnets ahead in the 18th minute following a great touch from inside the 6 yard box. Danny Shaw received a Yellow Card for Widnes in the 57th minute. In the 61st minute Widnes substituted Michael Grogan for James Steele. James Steele received a Yellow Card for Widnes in the 64th minute. Following an awesome free-kick from 20 yards out Louis Corrigan increased the Linnets' lead in the 65th minute. In the 72nd minute Widnes substituted Daniel Ventre for Sam Sheen. In the 75th minute Widnes substituted James Murray for Rhain Hellawell. In the 76th minute the Linnets substituted Lewis McKinney for Connor McCarthy. George Webster received a Yellow Card for Widnes in the 77th minute. In the 80th minute the Linnets substituted Liam Caddick for Zac Aley. Widnes closed the gap in the 89th minute with a goal from Ben Hodkinson.
