Our first competitive home game of the season against Widnes tomorrow (Tuesday) is dedicated to the memory of Ossie Smith.
Ossie died, aged 67, in June after a long illness.
In 1986, he had captained our predecessor club Runcorn AFC for the first of three Wembley appearances in the FA Trophy final.
He was also a leading light of successive title wins in 1980-81 (Northern Premier League) and 1981-82 (Alliance Premier League).
Ossie gained England semi-professional honours while at Canal Street and made 233 Linnets appearances in League matches alone while featuring in many cup successes across various competitions.
Renowned for his ability and star performances in central midfield, he will also be fondly remembered for his effervescent personality and popularity off the field.
As we embark on another season, we will pay special tribute to Ossie prior to kick-off with a minute's applause and wreath laying ceremony.
