Runcorn Linnets Ladies have improved by one position on last season's fifth-placed finish in Division One South of North West Regional Women's League's Division One South.
But it wasn't exactly the way Linnets would have preferred to close the campaign.
They were beaten 9-1 on Sunday at runners-up FC St Helens Women in what should have been Runcorn's penultimate game.
However, Wigan Athletic Women & Girls conceded this Wednesday's rescheduled home game against the Yellow & Greens.
The three points automatically awarded hoisted Linnets into fourth spot behind champions Poulton Vics, FC St Helens and Chester FC.
Meanwhile Linnets' APEC Taxis Stadium will host the Cheshire FA Women's Cup final this Thursday (May 1st).
Poulton Vics Women take on Stockport County Ladies, who are in their fourth successive county final - having defeated Linnets last year.
Kick-off is at 7.30pm.
