Scouts win Linnets support for Alpine adventure

We will welcome to Saturday's game against Vauxhall Motors young members of Mersey Weaver District Scouts.

The scouts are appealing for the backing from the Linnets family as the group raises money towards a camp in Switzerland this year.

Mersey Weaver District has launched the Mersey Weaver International Fund to send members to Kandersteg International Scout Centre.

Their guest party includes 13-year-old Riley Carr, nephew of Linnets chairman Peter Cartledge.

Riley's mum, Kerry Carr asked for our help with the venture and today's visit has been facilitated by Pete and our own fundraising/community manager Tracey Tinsley.

The group are planning a cake stall, raffle, tombola and a bucket collection.

We know from experience that our fans will contrubute generously to the cause.

Please help the youngsters to enjoy this great opportunity if you can.

In return, the scouts will be carrying out various volunteer tasks in support of the club on matchday.

The international centre is 1,200 metres above sea level in the Alps. Opened in 1923, it is the beating heart of the world scouting movement, every year hosting tens of thousands of young people from many nations.

Situated 68 kms from the Swiss capital, Berne, it offers activities and excursions in breathtaking scenery while fostering international friendships and a deeper understanding of global citizenship.

A permanent mini-jamboree, it was the vision of the movement's founder Lord Robert Baden-Powell.

Mersey Weaver District encompasses 18 scout groups in Runcorn, Widnes and surrounding areas with a combined 2024 membership just short of 1,500.

A spokesperson for the organisation said: "Kendersteg International Scout Centre is a magical place, where scouts from all over the world come together to share experiences, explore the stunning Alpine environment, and participate in a diverse range of activities designed to develop their skills and broaden their horizons.

"Our goal is to ensure that this incredible opportunity is accessible to all our young members, regardless of financial background.

"The Mersey Weaver International Fund will provide crucial activity costs, and essential gear, ensuring that no scout is left behind.

"By contributing to this fund, you are investing in the personal growth of our scouts, helping them build confidence, leadership skills, and a lifelong passion for adventure and cultural exchange.

"Your generosity will make a lasting impact, not only on the lives of these young individuals but also on the future of our community."
